Second Body
Milorad PavićIs there a "second body" that awaits us after death, and can we find traces of it while we are still alive?
Second Body is Milorad Pavić’s "pious novel," published in 2006. It weaves together two parallel narratives separated by centuries but connected by a mysterious stone ring and the search for immortality.
The first story follows Zaharije Orfelin, a real 18th-century Serbian writer and mystic living in Venice, who uncovers secrets about the "second body" of Christ. The second narrative is set in the 21st century, where the author himself and his wife become entangled in the same metaphysical mystery. As the characters hunt for answers across time, Pavić explores the relationship between the physical and the spiritual, suggesting that our existence is not limited to a single form or a single lifetime.
It is a philosophical thriller about love, death, and the ultimate hope for resurrection.
