The Vefa Apartment
Sadık YalsızuçanlarWhat if the only legacy you could leave behind was an honorable name?
"I left you no property, no wealth. I was only able to leave you an honorable, honest, manly name. Your heads will never be bowed down." These were the words of Tevfik İleri, written from Kayseri Prison in 1961.
Tevfik İleri was a bureaucrat who served in various roles including Minister of Transport, National Education, and Public Works, and was one of the closest allies of Adnan Menderes. Following the coup, he was tried at Yassıada and sentenced to death.
In this biographical novel, Sadık Yalsızuçanlar traces the story from Hemşin to the Vefa Apartment. Sharing the diaries of Yassıada and Kayseri Prison, the author reveals the hardships inflicted upon İleri and his entire family, allowing readers to bear witness to a turbulent era in Turkish history.
