The Goat Does Not Eat the Paradise Grass

Cao Wenxuan

Forced by difficult circumstances, a young boy named Mingzi is compelled to leave his rural hometown alongside his master, known as "Three Monks." Relying solely on their craftsmanship as carpenters, they struggle to survive, moving from place to place within the unforgiving landscape of a bustling metropolis. Though they harbor a deep longing to integrate into urban society, the harsh reality of their existence constantly reminds them that they remain perpetual outsiders to that world.

When Mingzi unexpectedly comes into possession of a substantial sum of earnest money, he finds himself torn by a profound moral dilemma. He agonizes over whether he should use these funds to alleviate his father's crushing financial debts back home. In his moment of greatest internal struggle, he recalls the flock of sheep he once raised. Faced with the alluring but forbidden "Paradise Grass," the proud animals chose to heroically starve rather than compromise their nature. Inspired by their unwavering dignity, Mingzi must ultimately make a choice that will define his own character and integrity.
