Tales of Nun
Nazan Bekiroğlu"Nun. I said 'letter', and the heart of the word trembled."
With all its sails unfurled and lights burning, the fairy-tale ship drifted away from the Bosphorus, carrying the last Sultan and his prince. They passed silently in front of the palace, where no light spilled from any window. Nothing remained behind but a vast void.
Tales of Nun offers a modern, perhaps postmodern, perspective on the Ottoman paradigm. Nazan Bekiroğlu weaves traditional textures with modern storytelling methods, placing the history of calligraphers and muralists at the center of her narrative.
The storyteller remains on the shore, whispering to the waves on autumn evenings, watching the shadows of the fairy-tale ship and imagining others who might see the same shadows.
