Ahlam Mosteghanemi
Ahlam Mosteghanemi is one of the most influential and widely read authors in the Arab world. Born in Tunisia to an exiled Algerian activist, she later became the first woman to publish an Arabic poetry collection in independent Algeria. Her literary career reached a global zenith with her acclaimed trilogy, starting with the Naguib Mahfouz Prize-winning Memory in the Flesh. Educated at the Sorbonne with a doctorate in sociology, Mosteghanemi’s work masterfully blends poetic lyricism with sharp sociopolitical critique, confronting themes of love, exile, and corruption. Recognized as a UNESCO Artist for Peace, she has successfully reconciled generations of readers with the Arabic language, cementing her status as a cultural icon and a fearless voice for human rights.
