Nazan Bekiroğlu

Nazan Bekiroğlu is a distinguished Turkish writer and academic known for her novels, stories, and essays. Born into a family devoted to literature and history, she lost her father at fourteen, a pivotal experience she later drew upon in her story İçinde Bir Sızı Var. She studied Turkish Language and Literature at Atatürk University, where her interest in folk traditions and Central Asian aesthetics shaped her early work. Guided by the literary scholar Orhan Okay, she developed a unique style rooted in both classical sensibilities and modern reflection.

After teaching in high schools, Bekiroğlu joined Karadeniz Technical University in 1985, completing her doctorate on Halide Edib Adıvar and eventually becoming a professor of Turkish literature. Her first book, Nun Masalları (1997), introduced her as a distinctive literary voice, combining historical depth with imaginative storytelling. Alongside her academic career, she has continued to publish widely, crafting fiction that intertwines memory, history, and spirituality, marking her as one of contemporary Turkish literature’s most prominent authors.
