Aka Morchiladze
Aka Morchiladze, the pen name of Giorgi Akhvlediani, is one of the most influential figures in contemporary Georgian literature. He studied Georgian history at Tbilisi State University and later worked as both an academic and a sports journalist, experiences that strongly shaped his narrative voice.
Since the early 1990s, he has played a crucial role in redefining Georgian prose beyond Soviet-era conventions. His cult classic Journey to Karabakh, adapted into several films, marked a turning point in modern Georgian literature. His years in London further expanded his international outlook.
Morchiladze is the record holder of the SABA Literary Prize and was officially nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2024. His works have been translated and published in 15 countries.
